OBB — Keeping (It) Up With the Joneses

Has it ever struck you how many attractive young ladies carry the name of Jones? I know it’s a common surname, but still. How many hot celebrities called Smith can you name?

In honour of the many lovely Joneses I’m doing an OBB special, with a top five run down.

Firstly, an honourable mention for two lovely ladies that I didn’t have room for — smoky-voiced jazz singer Norah Jones and comedy actress Rashida Jones (Parks & Recreation, The Office).

Now on to the Top Five…

5. Catherine Zeta Jones

She first came to our attention as cute Mariette Larkin in The Darling Buds of May which launched her Hollywood career where she won an Oscar for playing the sexy murderess Velma Kelly in Chicago before marrying Michael Douglas (and largely disappearing from our screens). A proper Welsh Jones girl with a pretty face and sexy body.

I think some corner-time followed by six of the best with the cane for CZJ…

4. January Jones

Best known as the “ice queen” Betty, wife of Don Draper in Mad Men, she has also starred in many movies, including a small cameo in Love Actually. A classic statuesque blonde beauty and the only non-Brit in the top five, she is the second member of the Draper family to earn an OBB nomination after her on-screen daughter Kiernan Shipka (you can see a glimpse of Kiernan in the picture below tucking into her Frosted Flakes).

3. Daisy Edgar Jones

She was a child actor in Cold Feet, but her breakthrough role was as Marianne Sheridan in Normal People where she made the difficult character of the novel sympathetic and likeable. Her many sex scenes drew the eye, and her character experimented with BDSM (sadly off-screen).

Since then she has gone to a mainstream Hollywood career, starring in big movies such as Where the Crawdads Sing and Twisters. Despite her good looks and Hollywood success she comes across as a nice girl-next-door.

2. Emilia Jones

Not so well known as some others on this list, but young Emilia, daughter of Welsh choirboy turned DJ/TV presenter Aled Jones, is cute as a button. Reminiscent of a young Jenna Coleman she is mainly known for her lead role in the Oscar-winning film CODA.

With those long coltish legs, I think a touch of the riding crop would suit Emilia…

1. Felicity Jones

An absolute stunner. She first caught my eye as the goofy skateboarder Kim in Chalet Girl, where she found herself caught in the headlights:

Since then she has gone on to star in many mainstream films — Rogue One, The Theory of Everything, The Brutalist, etc. — and picked up many awards and nominations along the way. She always looks elegant and beautiful on the red carpet while maintaining a down-to-earth British character.

With her experience as a chalet girl, a couple of weeks as a Buzee-Bee maid would be just the ticket for Felicity…

Finally, one might wonder who, from within the stable of Joneses, can we find to discipline these beautiful OBB candidates? Both Ruth Jones and Suranne Jones are wonderful actresses who could play firm-handed matriarchs with aplomb. In the end though, there is one outstanding candidate for the job who would strike fear into their hearts… Grace Jones!
