Late for School

A vintage silent super-8 movie from Janus

The events that take place in the Head’s study prove a traumatic experience for Susan. We feel sure that the viewer will be thrilled by the exciting action and authentic caning sequences portrayed in this film.

  1. everything about this should be crap. The lack of sound. The production quality, the obvious faked spanking and cane...... but I love it, it's one of my all-time favourites. Maybe it's a generational thing

Hmmm...in this case I think there's an ironic, retrospective, nostalgic charm about the 'crapness' that you mention. I'd warrant that chaps probably paid a considerable sum to purchase 'crap' like this back in the day. What seems rather crappy to us might have seemed quite otherwise then and it is perhaps this that gives such productions their retrospective charm. On the other hand, I must say that I often find myself bored by a lot of more recent and far more graphic and 'severe' productions. I often find the written word and my own imagination far more conducive to my interests. Moving image-wise, it's those old Roue and Blushes productions that manage to hit my own sweet spot most effectively - Room 2D, First Week of Term, Caned After School (hint, hint), Reform School Discipline, Sally's First Lesson, The Detention Room - that kind of thing. Most of them star Alan Bell. Can't help thinking there's a nostalgic element to this also, though they're decidedly not 'crap'.
