The Reverend White is clearly an upstanding member of the clergy. Indeed, he is such an upright man of the cloth that the cloth in question is plainly stretched and strained by the vigour he brings to his moral training of the girls of the parish.
With the arrival in the parish of so many blended families, or those where marital splits had left girls in the care of uncles, grandparents etc, Reverend White’s ‘Girls & Guardians Group’ had proved popular, though less so with the girls. A clue to the reason for that difference of opinion might be found in the gentlemen members’ habit of referring to to the group as “the Rev’s Swap Shop”. Here we see young Gillian, the most recent reluctant applicant to the group, proposed by her elderly stepfather, undergoing the Reverend’s entry inspection and obedience test. There is little doubt that Gillian will pass with flying colours - largely crimson and purple fading to blue. There will remain only a photo shoot with ‘Flash’ Harry, the group’s official photographer, to record a variety of tasteful (and tearful) poses to update the online brochure sent to all gentlemen members.
Love your "colourful" addition to the scenario that Darcy has created with his usual skill. The Girls & Guardians Group will indeed be popular with gentlemen sharing the Reverend White's interests. Those unaware of the "Swap Shop" will, of course, see it as another example of the Reverend's tireless devotion to his parish duties - which suits all parties. Except for the girls, that is.
Poor thing ..six of the best?
ReplyDelete12 at least
DeleteSix or twelve or ...well, that depends. Six, perhaps, if she promises to be a 'good' girl afterwards.
DeleteI wonder if Darcy did more drawings of this scenario?
ReplyDeleteNot yet but I might
DeleteSuperb Mr Darcy would love to chat further
